At AFM (SW) Ltd we are an approved contractor of the NICEIC: It gives peace of mind to our clients that any electrical work we carry out is of the highest standard. Registration to NICEIC is totally voluntary, but we as a conscientious company require our employees to provide the highest service possible to clients and the NICEIC helps to provide this service.
Our electrical engineering department provides the design, management, supply and, installation of all electrical systems; in homes, (both private and public) commercial properties, as well as industrial properties.
Our team will survey existing electrical services and develop a design based on the results that meet both you and legislative requirements. We can also provide electrical condition reports via a thermographic survey, if needed.
We provide lighting services including; general, feature, emergency and, external lighting systems, including highway / car parking lighting, main distribution and, general power systems.
If you require a fully integrated services system that encompasses lighting, power, security, fire alarm, access control, public address and, data/telecommunications, we can provide it. Our electrical services combine with our mechanical department to provide heating, ventilation and, air conditioning.
Whether you want to re-wire a house or a factory we are capable of providing the necessary considerations, so the job is done to an exacting standard.
In conjunction to the above we provide full procurement, installations, maintenance and design services were required. Included in our services we provide full testing and inspection, including Pat testing and fixed wire testing.

A well designed lighting system is the only way to achieve the ideal working environment. It’s imperative that we provide our customers with a practical, efficient and reliable solution. We can do this by installing lighting controls that have a massive impact on reducing cost and conserving energy consumption: Controls utilise natural daylight and incorporate presence detection. This becomes very prevalent in areas that are not in use all of the time. Infrequent areas can be fitted with presence controls which supply illumination when actually required.
Security lighting can be linked to external devices such as CCTV or other monitoring equipment to maintain the integrity of the building even when it is unoccupied. Whether you are a retail or commercial premises our experience in the industry allows us to advise on all aspects of lighting, whether it be based upon style, functionality, cost or a combination of all.
We offer a full design service of distribution systems and cable calculations, together with full lighting schemes. We have in house facilities of Auto Cad and plotting for large format drawings enabling us to respond quickly to produce drawings for architects and consultants.
Emergency lighting is primarily intended to provide sufficient illumination to enable people to see their way safely out of a building in cases of emergency.
It is vital that emergency lighting comes on if the normal lighting fails. It needs to be sufficiently bright, illuminated for enough time, and the light sources so positioned that the occupants of a building can be evacuated safely in an emergency.
Electrical Installation.
We work within the commercial, industrial and housing sectors and are able to offer a full design and build service for the installation of all aspects of electrical distribution and lighting. Works include new installations of mains power and distribution systems including sub mains and distribution boards. We offer the service of total power solutions for the whole building as well as back up generation and UPS systems. Installation include utilising service outlets, under floor installations with busbar systems with plug in floor boxes incorporating power and data and hard wired power. General and emergency lighting schemes including the use of the latest energy saving controls and LED technology to reduce lifetime costs and provide and ideal end user environment.

Electrical Maintenance.
Your plant and equipment will operate more efficiently and cost-effectively if maintenance programmes are designed and managed to maximise performance. We maintain our customers’ technical facilities and building services to minimise downtime and clear backlogs. Full coverage is provided, delivered by highly trained teams with specialist capabilities including lighting, emergency lighting, electrical testing, fire alarm, security system and access control systems.
Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) is essential and often mandatory to keep your installation safe and in top condition and it’s proven to be cost effective as it often reduces the possibility of down time and subsequent dilapidation costs.
PPM can include Emergency Lighting tests, servicing and certification to BS5266, lamp replacement exercises, electrical testing to BS7671, fire and smoke alarm testing to BS5839, portable appliance testing (PAT) and periodic inspection reports. Whatever level of care you require, AFM are able to assist you in extending the life and integrity of your installation.
UPS and Generator.
A UPS and/or standby diesel generator must be properly installed and commissioned to ensure a long and trouble-free working life. Whilst small, less sophisticated UPS systems simply plug into a standard mains socket, larger UPS system must be electrically installed and commissioned by skilled and qualified professionals. Likewise with generators – larger standby generator systems, typically over 10kVA, needed to professionally installed and commissioned. Additionally, a generator must be properly matched with all other power equipment for continuous power to be guaranteed. We’ll carry out a full site assessment including access, space and floor loadings. We’ll then arrange delivery and placement, arranging special lifting and cranes if needed.
Fixed Wire Testing.
An Electrical Installation Condition Report is the testing and inspection of the hard wiring system of a building. This will outline any defects that may prove to be a safety hazard. Regular inspection and testing is an essential part of any preventative maintenance programme.

Thermographic Surveys.
Thermal imaging is an extremely useful tool for electrical fault finding. It provides a safe way for our electricians to check components without disrupting the power supply to the occupants of a building. Components checked in a live state highlights areas were maintenance work may be necessary. Electrical faults lead to downtime and potential fire hazards: In both cases the impacted loss due to downtime and repair costs can become costly.
Electrical equipment can suffer from numerous faults which will show an increase in temperature as seen in the below examples.

Survey of circuits should be operated at full working load to ensure the highest operating temperature so any faults can be seen. The electrical engineer will use his knowledge of the components in question and compare them to similar components operating under the same conditions to determine the extent of any faults.
